OVERVIEW
Art therapists can support neurodivergent people, especially those who struggle to use speech or do not use speech to communicate. Art making offers a non-verbal form of communication and art therapy can be a strengths-based approach to promote self-acceptance, self-advocacy and the development of a positive neurodivergent identity.
Art therapists can assist with behavioural challenges, health crises and experiences of trauma and,are trained to help clients to integrate nonverbal cues often expressed through the creative process. To participate in or benefit from art therapy, there is no prior experience or skill in art required.
